Inspiration for a Butter Dish
Many years ago I stood at the foot of the Lizard Peninsula, the most southerly point in Cornwall, looking at serpentine — a stone streaked with a copper green colour. I've been chasing that colour glaze ever since. My stoneware butter dish which I call the Cornish Copper glaze is as close as I have come to achieving that. It is in my opinion quite unique and features a lovely semi opaque green hue and no two are ever the same.
I make each of these butter dishes by hand here in the Somerset countryside and hand glaze them one at a time, the dish is designed to take up to a 500g block of butter, or two American butter sticks, and the little handle on top means you lift the lid off with ease.
One customer wrote last month that she'd bought one as a gift for her sister and very nearly kept it. I know the feeling. There are three left in stock as I write this. I don't mass produce items to maintain the hand crafted attributes, so if you would like one now is the time to buy!
